Five minutes for a stiff neck at your desk
No equipment and no changing clothes. Four small movements you can do between two meetings.
People often ask us for the correct sitting posture. There is not really one. The best posture is the next one: a neck that gets stiff at a desk mainly needs more variety during the day.
Try this routine twice a day, slowly and within what feels comfortable.
- Look around. Turn your head slowly to the left and right, five times each way.
- Nod. Slide your chin gently backwards as if making a double chin, hold for three seconds, and repeat five times.
- Shoulder circles. Roll your shoulders backwards ten times, as large as you can.
- Open up. Clasp your hands behind your head, let your elbows open and take three slow breaths.
Your screen height matters less than how long you stay in front of it.
Mild tension during these movements is normal. If you get tingling in your arm or dizziness, stop, and have it looked at.
